About the Building

Joppa House has been built on the same line of other Dohnavur buildings.  It is designed in such a way that it captures the benefit of the diurnal variation of the winds. kanyakumari resorts near beach The view of the Indian ocean is altogether lovely with the continuous sound of splashing waves.  The broad outline of Chinese influence Travancore architecture is evident. A lovely monument of natural stone and wood. Stones are from the nearby Mylaudy Village and most of the wood are sourced from native timber like Vembu, Vahai, teak and Poovarasu.  All the wood work and furniture are hand made and hand crafted by skilled carpenters of Dohnavur.  Most of the motifs from Dohnavur buildings have been incorporated in this house. Antique lamps are hung in forest drift wood and creepers – switches are embedded in finely crafted wooden boards.  Though the facilities are very basic and simple the whole ambience is one of refined old world charm with fine craftsmanship.
